As fans eagerly await concrete details on Grand Theft Auto VI following 2013's genre-defining Grand Theft Auto V, intrigued speculation stirs around when and where Rockstar Games sets their next criminal epic opus. Though the developer remains characteristically quiet thus far, enough rumors persist pegging GTA VI as an henceforth dubbed ‘Project Americas’ to envision potentials directions for the blockbuster open world franchise’s sixth numerical installment.
Most chatter suggests a return to the vibrant Vice City which imaginatively brought 1980’s Miami to chaotic life in classic 2002 entry Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. The neon-lit adult playground provides Rockstar ripe satire fodder. An adjoining Central/South American landscape could also showcase sprawling diversity from bustling urban barrios to remote jungle outposts, all richly textured in signature Rockstar style.
Storywise, protagonists new and familiar (perhaps a older generation cameos) may traffic contraband fueling turf wars between established Vice City mobs and encroaching Mexican cartels. Alternatively, a female lead or multiple leads sharing a campaign could break new ground for representation in Grand Theft Auto VI’s gritty realities.
Of course, Rockstar may still subvert expectations entirely when Grand Theft Auto VI eventually releases. But Vice City’s inherent flamboyance blended with glimpses at cultures beyond America’s borders make ‘Project Americas’ a compelling concept. Wherever the location, expect the living world craftsmanship, pitch black comedy and blockbuster production values distinguishing Grand Theft Auto’s systemic mayhem at its peak.
