Ukraine "Foils FSB Plot" to Assassinate Zelensky & Budanov as "Gift" for Putin, Arrests Two SBU Men Ukraine claim to have foiled a Russian plot to assassinate President Volodymyr Zelensky and other top military officials. Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) claims Russia planned to kill Zelensky and top security officials as a “gift” for Vladimir Putin on his inauguration. The SBU said agents working for Russia were asked to identify people close to Zelensky’s security, who could take him hostage and later kill him. Other top Ukrainian officials targeted in the plot were Vasyl Maliuk, the head of the SBU, and Kyrylo Budanov, the head of military intelligence agency. Budanov was reportedly intended to “be eliminated” before Orthodox Easter, which was on May 5, Ukraine’s intelligence agency HUR said.
